Cavern of whispers restart?

I went and did the complete dungeon in cavern of whispers and it told me to go save the mayor. Then I ported to a friend leaving the dungeon. Then I clicked to go life fountain which took me to hamanitsu docks. Then it said my quest was to complete the cavern of whispers again. Did I leave to early or did the game just mess up? And if the game messed up is there a way where I don't have to go through it again?
Please help!
