Different Types of Ships

So I have a decent understanding of ships and how to gain Nautical Level and different types of ships origins, but I'm wondering what is the difference between Skiff, Frigate, and Galleon? I keep reading that the only difference is hull sizes, but does it affect the speed of the ships? Thanks!

In addition to the hull having greater strength in a bigger ship, the differences between skiffs, frigates and galleons can be found in their speed and turning radius.

Smaller ships are faster and more maneuverable, larger ships can take more of a pounding.
