Dreadnaught Timing Mysteries and Theories Thread!

So, Ratbeard made it quite clear that he wasn't going to give any details about when the new Turret will appear, and there are already rumours spreading like greek fire in a sugar cane field. So I'm starting this thread so that we can share our ideas and/or theories on this new battle area, and perhaps debunk them as they are formulated , or find a method that works.

Current running rumour: The Dreadnaught won't appear if you shoot down the scouts before its appearance.

I'm calling shenanigans on this rumour as it's too far fetched, and I've sat around on relatively empty realms watching scout ships as if they were a bald eagle perched on my mailbox, as have many other players I've observed. All the while Avery realm is getting riled up over pranksters shooting down the scouts because some players say not to.

So here's my current running theories on when it's going to show up.

Theory 1: The scout ships signify that the Dreadnaught has spawned in a nearby realm

To me this may be the case because whilst realm hopping on one occasion I saw a scout, jumped realms, saw a scout and 2 escorts, jumped realms again and missed the dreadnaught, according to the players already there.

Theory 2: All Escort ships must be cleared out after the Dreadnaught is destroyed before it will spawn again.

This Idea came up tonight as I went through the Dreadnaught with one other player (much easier than a 4 player battle oddly enough) then I jumped realms back to Avery from One-Eyed Jack realm. 5 minutes later I hopped back there and there were 5 players shooting down the escorts that remained after the Dreadnaught was defeated. So I joined in. Not 5 seconds after the last ship was destroyed (including the scout) another player ported in to inform us that the Dreadnaught had appeared in Avery realm.

So, there you have my current theories on getting to the Dreadnaught, but it's way past my bedtime. So if some of you guys want to test out my theories and let me know if they worked or not, as well as post your own theories, that would be awesome.

What can you do? Shooting the Scouts doesn't make the DN appear. Not shooting them makes sense; they're scouts, if they're attacked, it's dangerous for the DN to be in those skies.
I've yet to see a single Escort ship - I either wait literally ages on one realm or I hop and find it ( by accident. )
Why should it make more sense to clear out the escorts and not shoot the scouts, to make the new DN appear?
This is just as much a superstition as the other. The DN will spawn when its timer says it will.
The only thing I see preventing the DN from appearing is those idiots who park their ships right where the DN spawns.
We NEED some explanation as to how this works, KI. Give a rest to Ratbeard's "It's more fun if you figure it out!"
It's frustrating and it's not working.
"Nobody expects the Armada Dreadnaught!"

I wasn't aware that I made it "quite clear" I wouldn't give away any details...

  1. Sink the scouts. Every time.
  2. Eventually the dreadnaught will arrive, along with lots of escorts.
  3. Escorts will respawn as long as the turret is alive. (Farming? Enjoy!)
  4. You don't need to kill the escorts in order to kill the DN, but it might be easier if you at least have some friends in the skyway keeping the escorts occupied so that somebody can focus on the DN.
  5. When the DN is "killed," it will turn into a zone you can dock with. Sail up and hit X to dock.
  6. The "sunk" DN will not wait around forever. (We're aware of certain "loopholes.")
  7. The escorts may hang around in the skyway after the DN is dead, but they won't respawn without a DN.

Thank YOU, Ratbeard, for providing that info. i am not interested in Pirate101 anymore, and more into swearing anime like One Piece, but it's still interesting to see where this game is going.

So, does that mean you'll be stopping those players using a friend as a "place holder"?

Ratbeard, I have to admit I giggled a little when I saw your post, as I didn't think this thread would gain such a concise response, let alone so quickly! Ah well, I thank ye for your response, this will definitely clear up for than a few debates in the skyways!

This thing is a pain. First there's the timing issue to deal with. Are we having to wait until the last crew that got in finishes the fight? Is that why it's taking so long for it to come back? Second, if you happen to get boarded by an escort ship, there's a good chance you'll miss the fight on the DN because others will get there first. Sure, keep the escorts busy while someone focuses on the DN -- I get that. But then other people who have been there for all of two seconds can come board the DN even though the escort fighting folks have been there for a while. Third, if timing on the sigils gets messed up by one of the people there, we can't back out and get that person(s) to come in with us, because backing out takes us back to Skull Island rather than right outside the dungeon. While I get that it's much easier with a team of people, we have to rely too much on people not being rude or stupid. It's so frustrating to wait around for the thing and then have someone come in and hijack your spot or not hit the sigils in time.

Not in the short term, but perhaps eventually.

This is complicated and technical, but I'll try to explain.

There are actually three different "zones" at play in this encounter. First, there's the Skull Island Skyway, where the dread appears and the ship battles take place. Second, there's the "dock zone," which is where you stand after defeating the DN and docking with it. (The dock zone has the sigils.) And finally, there's the interior zone, where the battle with the armada takes place. Each of these zones is distinct-- your pirate can only be in one zone at a time. And there may be more than one "instance" of any of these zones at a time-- more than one Skyway, more than one Dock, and more than one Interior.

If you're standing on the dock long enough, it's quite possible that the spawner in the skyway will reset, and a new DN battle could be taking place in the skyway. When that battle ends, the players who finished off the DN will get a new dock zone-- they'll enter their own, new instance of the dock zone.

The unique zones don't "talk" to each other for the most part, so-- No, you don't have to "finish" one entire encounter with the DN to get a new one to spawn.

Second, if you happen to get boarded by an escort ship, there's a good chance you'll miss the fight on the DN because others will get there first.

This is the exact reason why it's possible to have a friendly pirate hold the dock for you. But I would simply advise you to try your hardest not to get boarded. It's supposed to be tough.

While I get that it's much easier with a team of people, we have to rely too much on people not being rude or stupid.

Yes, this is an MMO. There are other players in the game. Some of them surely could use another friendly player to teach them proper etiquette.

Thank you for the technical explanation... makes sense.

I'm fine with it being tough... love the challenge of staying alive, actually. That doesn't address the issue of others sneaking in and taking your spot after you've been fighting the escorts for a while.

I think you missed my point, Mr. Beard. I love that it's an MMO. I love playing the game with other people and have made some great friends doing it. Usually when dealing with rude people one can just switch realms (unfortunately, the rude ones don't typically listen to reason). It seems we can't do that here without losing the opportunity for the battle. Love when it works and we can get a friendly crew together, but this is the first case where a rude pirate can actually stop us from getting in to battle.

As long as you're on the dock with the sigil, it isn't going anywhere. Take your time and enter with the group you want to enter with.

I guess if someone is adamant about being a jerk, they can keep trying to ruin it for you by jumping on your sigil.

But generally I'd just back off the sigil if you see them step on, wait until the sigil is clear, and then step on with your friends.
