Alloted Companion per battle limit glitch

When I battled the Dark Crawler in the Spirit World during Old Scratch's second promotion quest, I, unintentionally, used 4 Companions for that battle instead of 3 for most battles. Does having 4 Companions in a battle an unintentional glitch or is it an intentional feature for very rare occasional battles? Thanks for looking it up!

I am not sure ki knows about this.That has been happening since the game went live and people asume Ki made it that way so it wasn't reported.
