Can't redeem items in-game

Good morning everyone, I was wondering if this is an error in the game's source code or if I have to do something different. So I was going to redeem an item from the gift window but when I try to redeem it, an error msg pops up saying "this item failed to redeem" please help!

I always have this problem. It's really weird- it wouldn't let me claim something one day, then a few days later at a different time it let me claim it. I think it's some type of glitch.
