hybrid companions?

hello everyone

everyone knows that if you carry a hybrid weapon, you share in the benefits, and disadvantages of both
but this is the advantages I am talking about

if you are a melee with a stabby shooty weapon, and a musketeer uses burst fire epic talent, you can use that as well and its treated the same as relentless, but the question this brings me to is, handsome dan, bulldog companion from the admirals bundle, he has a sword and a gun, so far he has not been able to trigger burst fire, so I am wondering, can he?
