Should There Be More Female Companions?

So, out of all the companions I have so far, only a few of them are females.
Could it be that males happen to be better fighters? I mean, let's take a standard female companion: Bonnie Anne. She typically deals less damage than most of my male companions, and she's a Fox Sharpshooter.
Playing a female player myself, I have a strong feeling for this topic.
