MMORPG.com Game of the Year 2012!

Pirates! If it wasn’t well known before, it definitely is known now that KingsIsle has the most amazing fans out there! MMORPG recently asked for fans to vote on which MMO they felt was the best in 2012. After a hard fought battle with over 100,000 votes, Pirate101 was named the 2012 Game of the Year thanks to all our amazing players. Our wonderful family friendly community never ceases to amaze us! Congratulations to us all.

Producer's Letter

If you haven’t checked out the credits for the game, Jay Gordon (aka The Frogfather) is the producer for Pirate101. In case you missed it, The Frogfather also has written his first Producer's Letter. Be sure to check this out as he has some great insights into what’s to come in 2013.

We feel so fortunate to have the continuing opportunity to create and enjoy this Pirate universe together for many moons to come, and something tells me we'll see a few more twists and turns (that's why it's called "The Spiral") before getting a hold of all 7 map pieces en route to "El Dorado". –The Frog Father

Books for the Cultured Pirate

Aha! I see my wonderful pirate friends have come to Valencia once again to ask Librarian Adelmo for another book recommendation.

This month I would like to recommend to you the book Smells Like Pirates, by Suzanne Selfors. If you’ve read the other books in the Smells Like Dog series (or even if you haven’t) you’re in for a treat with this book, which is the third in the series! Homer Pudding is 12 years old and wants to be a treasure hunter like his Uncle Drake. It’s a good thing that his uncle has willed him Dog, a basset hound with mysterious talents. In this book, Homer and Dog have to find the treasure of the famous pirate Rumpold Smeller – while avoiding a killer tortoise, an evil museum director, a whale shark, and worse! A bit like the Series of Unfortunate Events books (but with happier endings!), these are great chapter books with lots of action.

12 Days of the Spiral Recap

Pirate101 celebrated its first 12 Days of The Spiral in 2012 along with Wizard101. Those who participated during this time received free gold, a free festive housing item, and even a free companion training point. We also introduced the amazing Fa-la-la-la-llama charity mount, a ton of cool and festive holiday weapons, and the Yule Trogg Companion to the crown shop. We hope you had a fun holiday in 2012!

Hints from One-Eyed Jack

Our players seem to love ganging up together to sink ships in the skyways! Sinking a ship all by yourself is fun, but two or three pirate ships all firing on an enemy ship can make earning those nautical levels go a lot faster—not to mention it’s just cool to sink a ship with friends by your side.

A question recently came up where a player was unsure how to begin firing on an enemy ship in this situation. As you may have observed, your ship will naturally start shooting its cannons when it’s fired upon by an enemy, but what do you do when your ship isn’t the main target and isn’t automatically firing back?

The answer is simply a matter of targeting the enemy ship and using the power buttons.

Step 1: Either click on the ship you want to target or use the bracket keys ("[" or "]") on the keyboard to select a ship as your current target.

Step 2: Either click the power buttons on the screen or use the 1-4 buttons on your keyboard to activate powers and begin combat.
