May was an interesting month in Pirate101! Here’s a quick rundown of all the happenings:
Pirates De Mayo was a grand party in Pirate101! Hopefully you were paying attention and successfully redeemed your code for a free Mariachi Outfit and grabbed some great deals on “Cool Ranch” themed items.
The new Green Vine mount made an appearance in the Crown Shop.
We began selling our new “totem” themed pre-paid cards in certain Safeway and Albertson’s stores.
We had a great sale on Smuggler’s Arenas and even featured some play through on KI live. Great risks can lead to great rewards.
We also had a lot of great sales! It’s a good idea to keep your eyes on the game launcher for more information about these sales as they happen.
Thanks for playing Pirate101! Read on for more fun with fans and our regular articles.
Rogue's Gallery: Tonka
We recently asked our players what characters they’d like to see in our upcoming Rogue’s Gallery. TurleMcTurtleton on the Message Boards piped up with a great suggestion: Tonka! Now there’s a great companion from Cool Ranch we haven’t discussed yet! We took that as our cue. Enjoy this bit of lore behind the mighty bison Tonka.
Name: Tonka
Home: Cool Ranch
Weapons: Bowie Knives (originally Tomahawks)
Occupation: Tracker and Warrior
Born to the Big Sky Bison tribe in Cool Ranch, Tonka was a gifted tracker and a strong warrior, but there was always something a little... different about him. Tonka always looked to the horizon, and filled his head with thoughts of far off lands.
When the birds arrived in Cool Ranch from Back East, he urged caution in tribal councils, wondering if these strange new folk knew anything worth learning. But the first contact with the strangers went badly, setting off a string of battles which drove the Bison back to the corners of Cool Ranch. Worst of all, outlaws invaded their territories to hide from the bird authorities – and Captain Blood was the worst. Blood drove the Bison from what is now the Haunted Skyway, and most of them did not look back – but Tonka did, and noticed the masked hero who hunted Blood relentlessly.
Believing anything was better than Blood’s tyranny, Tonka broke rank with his people and joined El Toro, serving him as a guide, tracker, and stout warrior companion. After Blood was defeated Tonka returned to his people, and stayed with them until another bold hero lured him into more adventures.
Tonka found a Chicken ranger, bloodied and left for dead by a gang of outlaws, and nursed the lawman back to health. When the Ranger decided to embark on a new career as an anonymous hero seeking justice, Tonka told him about El Toro, and suggested he wear a mask. So the Free Ranger was born. Tonka fought beside the Free Ranger for many years, righting wrongs and protecting the innocent, until he met a young Pirate who lured him away from Cool Ranch altogether and to even greater adventures...
