It might be time to investigate, and the best way to do that is having our community manager put on another Nautical XP Party! Wondering what all those Chocolope pets are doing in Pirate101? In April we celebrated the Spring Festival! A bunch of mounts, pets, and a rather stylish eyepatch were brought back for the season. What items did you pick up?

KI LIVE WITH SPARCK & PROFESSOR FALMEA


We had another at-home edition of KI Live! Due to the world situation, the KingsIsle team is currently working from home. This didn’t stop us from putting on a show online though. We’re glad we were able to put on the show too, as we had lots to talk about, including showing off more of the 2020 Spring Update which is now on the Live Realms!

ZONE OF THE MONTH - BEACHHEAD

Name: Beachhead

Location: Westminster Skyway, Marleybone

Description:

An artificial island constructed by the Armada and towed to Westminster skyway from Valencia, Beachhead is a Sky Station; a self-sufficient attack and staging platform in Valencia's ongoing war with Marleybone. In addition to its massive docks which can service the entire Valencian invasion fleet, the station was designed with a massive cannon large enough to shoot all the way across the skyway. In a fateful decision, Rook ordered the station deployed before the cannon was operational.

Don't Miss this Quest!

Beachhead has no sidequests, but the quest that takes players to Bishop's lab is a showstopper, with implications not just for Beachhead and Marleybone but for the entire storyline.

Behind the Dev Process:

The Death Star from Star Wars and the Guns of Navarone provided the primary inspiration for beachhead – the player's mission to destroy it is a direct parallel to the mission to Navarone (or at least the end of it). The design of the zone and its flow was determined by concerns over the length of the encounters, a lesson learned in Miranda in Cool Ranch. Originally written as a single encounter, breaking it into three allowed for each to have more content. The Bishop segment was definitely the most fun part of the zone to write, and Beachhead also has the distinction of holding Blind Mew's favorite joke in all of Pirate101 – "What's a piston?"

“I've had some time on my hands and created some digital artwork of my Pirate101 Witchdoctor Stormy Melody, and thought I would share it with you! I had a lot of fun drawing her and imagining her interacting the the Mournsong spell. I've always loved the designs in the game, especially Queen's design. I actually drew some artwork for Queen last year, and only recently looked back at it and did a little more work on it.”
