Thankful for November

November is the perfect time for being thankful for all the wonderful things we have. We’re very thankful for our loyal Pirate101 fans who enjoy sailing the Spiral and uncovering the mysteries of the skyways. This month we’ll be showing our thanks for veterans and enjoying the bounty of Thanksgiving!

We also hope you enjoyed a fun birthday month last month in Pirate101! Read on for a few highlights and all the news that’s fit to print.

Rogue's Gallery... A Look Back

Taking a look back, it’s pretty amazing to see exactly how many Rogue’s Gallery videos have been produced for Pirate101. So many, in fact, we’re starting to scramble a bit to find more offbeat and fun characters to produce videos about!

We do have a few more nefarious rogues in mind for future videos, but we’re also open to suggestions! If you have a great suggestion for a character whose backstory you’d like to know just a little bit more about, feel free to leave us a request on the official forums in The Shipyards.

Did you miss a previous Rogue’s Gallery? Here’s a list from most recent all the way back to Avery!

Pirate101 Birthday Recap!

Last month Pirate101 turned three! News hit the National news wire and spread like wildfire to news agencies, blogs, and websites all over the world! There was a special KI Live livestream event that featured the many decoration around Skull Island. Massively Overpowered followed KI Live with a fun livestream of their own to help us celebrate. Our friends at MMORPG.com announced our birthday too!

We really appreciated all the Happy Birthday announcements from our fans on the official forums, as well as our official fan sites.

Books for the Cultured Pirate

Ahh, Pirate friends! Welcome back! Pirates should be ready for... well, maybe not anything, but a lot of things. And there's no more fun way to learn a lot of skills than with the book Howtoons: Tools of Mass Construction by Saul Griffith and Nick Dragotta. Howtoons is a book of comics about siblings Celine and Tucker and all the things they make—and each cartoon has instructions so you can make those things too.

Learn pirate’y skills like how to tie a Monkey's Fist knot (and use it to make a cool rope swing) or how to make your own ink, paper and quill pen (good for sending messages in bottles). And learn non-pirate’y skills too, like how to make an electric motor, a water-bottle submarine, and a marshmallow shooter.

Howtoons is even better than your average book of cool projects. That's because the team who made this book believes kids have the power to change the world by making cool stuff! You'll find advice about what kind of tools you need for which jobs, how to create your own workshop, and even a really good lesson on how to draw so that you can show your ideas to other people before you've built them. As they say in the book, "The world we all want to live in will not build itself. It needs us to invent it, to create it." Get inventing!

Our birthday month was a lot of fun, and many of you were pretty excited about the new found power of Old Scratch! Let’s take a look at some of the memorable posts that caught our eye last month:

The big news from last month for many fans was all the fun prizes you could find in the gift boxes around Skull Island. If you missed the list of loot you could find, be sure to see this guide from Stars of the Spiral.

Pirate101 YouTube pros, Blaze and Blue, headed into Puerto Mico last month . . . did you see it? Congrats!

If you also play Wizard101, you may have also seen a familiar face in Polaris.

The Hunt for Hybrids!

Now that there are so many new pets in the game, there’s also a renewed interest in finding those hidden hybrid pets! Also, we were happy to see Petnome Pirates start filling in the petnomes for new critters like the Karma Chameleon, Anansi, and the Octoberpus (You should lend a hand in filling out those Petnomes, Pirates!).

Did you see the discovery of the Snow Scarab hybrid? How about the amazing Heck fish? Both of those discoveries were brand new as of last month . . . what could surface in November?

Vadima's Visions

Hello pirates! Vadima was feeling a bit of nostalgia this month and went back through our old list of questions to see if there was a hidden gem I had missed. As I was reading through, I found this very intriguing question from Mark Laveer: “Is Death and Taxes truly the hardest thing on Earth?”

Let us peer now into my crystal ball to answer the question that all pirates face . . . even Captain Blood . . . Death and Taxes.

*peers*

Oh, well . . . um . . . Captain Laveer, I’m not going to show you this first part of the vision *nervous laughing* BUT LOOK! I do see there is a quest in Mooshu actually named Death and Taxes!

If you venture all the way through MooShu there definitely is no avoiding this quest as it is along the storyline, but no . . . it’s not the hardest thing ever. In fact, there are at least eight other encounter quests harder than “Death and Taxes” based on player completion rates from 2015. In fact, in the same area, “Tso Not Ready” is roughly 20% more difficult when compared to “Death and Taxes.”

The visions fade . . . until next time my Pirate friends, thank you for visiting Vadima. I hope to see you asking me more mysterious questions for next month! Remember to say hello to Vadima when you can.
