Rogue's Gallery: The Monkey King
Any Pirate who’s ventured through Mooshu will be able to tell you the story of The Monkey King! But what you may not know, is that he began his journey as “The Stone Monkey.” Here’s the latest Rogue’s Gallery that gives the inside scoop on The Monkey King’s past and how he became King of the Mooshu monkeys.
Welcome to the Pirate101 Rogue’s Gallery. Subject, Monkey King.
Long ago, on the Mountain of Flowers and Fruit, there was a stone egg. It hatched and out came a Stone Monkey, who bowed to the four corners of the world and then proceeded to gambol about the mountain eating flowers and fruit at his leisure. As he ate he became less stone and more monkey.
Soon he happened upon a tribe of other monkeys who were upset and scared. They wanted food and shelter. Hiding his stone nature from his fellow monkeys, The Stone Monkey (who knew where all of these things were) slyly said, “Any Monkey who could find these things, he should be King.” And the Monkeys agreed. And so, after waiting for several days, he led the monkeys to food and then to a pleasant grotto filled with trees that they might live in. And in this way he was crowned The Monkey King.
Many years later Monkey King was approached by the sage Shunzang to accompany him to the west to discern the teaching of the Moodha. The Spirits of Mooshu would provide him great reward for this undertaking. Monkey King had been bored for a while, so he made the long, arduous journey to Maruzame Castle with Shunzang. Along the way he shared countless adventures with Shunzang’s other companions, Friar Sand, Pigsy, and the Dragon Prince. Monkey King travelled ever onward, despite the dangers, greedy for the reward that would be his when the journey was done. But upon his return, Monkey King was dismayed to find that his reward was merely to become a Temple Guardian – a lowly job beneath the likes of one so clever and mighty!
Monkey King defied the will of the Spirits and set out to become the richest hero in all of MooShu... but the Spirits had different plans. The Spirts dropped the Sacred Mountain on him from out of the sky, imprisoning the trickster beneath it. And there he would have stayed... but even the Spirits are incapable of denying Destiny and The Monkey King was fated to make another Great Journey.
These Pirates and more await you when you play for free at Pirate101.com.”
Books for the Cultured Pirate
Hello again, my Pirate friends! It is I, Adelmo, your favorite unicorn librarian from Valencia! I have a great book to share with you today, but I’m nervous because . . . I may not be your favorite unicorn anymore after you read this book!
If you are a fan of Calvin and Hobbes, chances are you wish there were more Calvin and Hobbes books to read. Well, Mr. Watterson isn't writing any more books, but now there's another series of cartoons about a kid and an imaginary creature who are best friends. Are they sarcastic sometimes? Yep, just like Calvin and Hobbes. Do they make elaborate plans that get them in trouble? Oh, yes: they accidentally turn the meanest girl in class BALD. But in these cartoons, the kid is a girl named Phoebe, and the creature is ... a unicorn … named Marigold Heavenly Nostrils.
I’m willing to take the risk that I may not be your favorite unicorn anymore because you simply must check out Phoebe and Her Unicorn by Dana Simpson, and the sequel, Unicorn on a Roll. You will laugh a lot, and I think you'll like Phoebe and Marigold a lot, too. (And then give the books to your parents, they will probably think different parts are funny, but they'll definitely enjoy them!)

All the Fun Days of Arrrgust
Did you know that we celebrate all kinds of fun days and events on our Facebook and Twitter pages? Make sure you’re following us on Social Media to join in the fun! Here’s a few of our “days” we celebrated in Arrrgust:
Hello my Pirate friends, I see you are in a state for learning. Yes! Your minds are turned to finding hidden secrets and discovering the mysteries of Madame Vadima’s Crystal Ball. Two of you have asked very interesting questions that I may be able to soothsay for you today. As a reminder, you can always come before me to ask your questions on the Pirate101.com message boards!
The first quandary comes from a pirate named “TheBestBuccaneer” who asks, “I'd like to know which class is the most popular and which class is most popular with the girls and which is more popular with the guys!”
Hmmm, very interesting . . . I see equality in the Spiral! The Swashbuckler is the preferred class in Pirate101 whether you are a boy or a girl. The interesting division happens the next step down in popularity. The Boys align with Buccaneers and the Girls align with Witchdoctors. If I do say so myself, you boys need to take a lesson from the girls. *cough* What is Vadima saying?! Oh, I’m only teasing you TheBestBuccaneer! *cough*
The second quizzical query quip comes from a pirate named “ItsAMeMario4” who asks, “What is the most popular companion used for battle, and what is the least popular companion for battle? Oh, and what companions are the most bought from the Crown Shop, and what is the least?” Whew! This is a mystery wrapped in a conundrum and boiled in a pot of perplexing enigma sauce, but I think I may have a kind of answer of you in my crystal ball . . . let us peer together.
AHA! Do you see the sign of the female fox? Yes, this can only mean that Bonnie Anne is the “best of all the game” when it comes to battle board combat. Hmmm, and here . . . a symbol of great rarity shines above a male Troggy Chieften. Behold! It is Eep Opp Ork Ah-Ah . . . a hidden companion that is expensive and difficult to obtain. He is the rarest companion to enter combat!
As for companions purchased with Crowns, let us again look to purchases made between males and females.
The Top three most purchased companions by females are . . .
1. Lucy Sterling
2. Yule Trogg
3. Wagyu Sanjuro
The top three most purchased companions by males are . . .
1. Yule Trogg
2. Wagyu Sanjuro
3. Lucy Sterling
Do you see?! There is similar equality with only slight differences between the purchases made between boys and girls. Very interesting! I agree, Lucy Sterling and Wagyu Sanjuro are very strong companions, and that cute Yule Trogg . . . well . . . he’s cute at least, right, Pirates?
Until next time my Pirate friends, thank you for visiting Vadima. Come again!
