Quick question on a companion

After finishing Rooster Cogburn's questline, he accquired true grit and the option of 2 epics but my friend said that he camed with 3 epics . Who is right in this situation? Is it a bug? Me and her are the same class so that cant be the problem.

After the first promotion, he will have a total of 3 epics - one he came with, and the other two you choose.
