Hide in shadows targeting?

Okay, so I was fighting the Hydra and I used hide in shadows. I ran up to a hydra head (scarlet) and it still hit me. That's how I lost.
Could you look into this? thnx

I believe Scarlet has a first strike and an AOE. In fact the other two heads have AOEs and Amethyst has "Lightning Reflex".

It uses an area attack, I believe, so it can still hit you.
