Another name for scripts?

Now what is a script? I have never heard of any pirate lore saying anything about a script ever. Can we make the name a little more pirateie? Such as Gems? Even stones or pearls would be better than calling a currency a script. It makes it sound like it is a computer writing system. Researching on currency names back in the past pirates called their currency Reales and Escudos. Maybe having more of a pirate take on this please. It is a pirate game after all.

Definition of SCRIP

a : any of various documents used as evidence that the holder or bearer is entitled to receive something (as a fractional share of stock or an allotment of land)
b : paper currency or a token issued for temporary use in an emergency

Scrip is sort of like an old time-y check or gift certificate, like an IOU. Perfect for nefarious dealings on the Black Market.
