Who is Avery's pet?

Every time I go to see Captain Avery he has a cute little feathered friend on his arm. Is he a cockatiel, an albino Skarakeet, or perhaps some rare avian species we'll meet in Aquila some day? And does he (or she) have a name? I feel a little silly holding up a cracker to him (or her) and going "Here ya go, birdie!"
