Pet armor not boosting armor

So I managed to level my snow lion fish to adult and got "grants armored 1" power which when I hover over it says "gives owner bonus to armor" yet when I equip it to my buccaneer her armor doesn't go up. I've logged back on and off a few times and that does nothing.
