Unable to Redeem Gifts Anyone?

Is anyone else having problems redeeming gifts or is it just me? I just don't understand why the game won't allow me to collect my items (Yes, i have bag space).

I have found that redeeming gifts must be the first thing you do when logging in on the pirate. If you change locations, collect from companions, pick up or sell something or do anything else, you will have to log out of that character and back in.
